AILET Exam

The All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by National Law University Delhi (NLU Delhi) for admission to its undergraduate (BA LLB) and postgraduate (LLM) law programs. The exam is conducted annually, and it serves as the primary entrance exam for those wishing to pursue law degrees at NLU Delhi.

Eligibility Criteria:

Undergraduate (BA LLB) Program:

  1. Age Limit:
    • For the BA LLB program, candidates must be below 20 years of age (22 years for SC/ST candidates) as of 1st July of the year of admission.
  1. Educational Qualifications:
    • Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination or its equivalent from a recognized board with a minimum of 50% marks (for General/OBC candidates) or 40% marks (for SC/ST candidates).
    • Candidates who are appearing for the 12th standard examination can also apply.

Postgraduate (LLM) Program:

  1. Age Limit:
    • There is no upper age limit for the LLM program.
  1. Educational Qualifications:
    • Candidates must have a three-year LLB degree or a five-year integrated LLB degree from a recognized university with at least 50% marks (for General/OBC candidates) or 45% marks (for SC/ST candidates).

Exam Pattern:

For Undergraduate (BA LLB) Program:

  1. Total Marks: 150 marks
  2. Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
  3. Sections:
    • English Language: 35 questions
    • General Knowledge: 35 questions
    • Logical Reasoning: 35 questions
    • Legal Aptitude: 35 questions
    • Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability): 10 questions
  1. Marking Scheme:
    • +1 mark for each correct answer
    • -0.25 marks for each incorrect answer (negative marking)

For Postgraduate (LLM) Program:

  1. Total Marks: 150 marks
  2. Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
  3. Sections:
    • Constitutional Law: 50 questions
    • Jurisprudence: 50 questions
    • Other Law Subjects (including contracts, torts, criminal law, etc.): 50 questions
  1. Marking Scheme:
    • +1 mark for each correct answer
    • -0.25 marks for each incorrect answer (negative marking)

Selection Process:

  1. Written Exam: The AILET exam is the first step of the selection process. Candidates need to secure a minimum cut-off to be eligible for further rounds.
  2. Merit List: After the exam, a merit list will be prepared based on the candidate’s performance.
  3. Counseling and Admission: Shortlisted candidates will be called for counseling, where they will have the option to choose their preferred course and NLU Delhi will allocate seats based on merit and availability.

Preparation Tips for AILET Exam:

  1. Know the Syllabus: Go through the syllabus for all sections (English, General Knowledge, Logical Reasoning, Legal Aptitude, and Elementary Mathematics).
  2. Current Affairs: Stay updated on national and international events, especially related to law, politics, and social issues.
  3. Practice Previous Papers: Solve previous years’ AILET question papers and take mock tests to improve speed and accuracy.
  4. Focus on Legal Aptitude: Work on strengthening your understanding of legal principles and their application to scenarios.
  5. Time Management: Since the exam is of shorter duration, practice time management during your preparation.
