The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a national-level entrance exam conducted for admission to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programs in National Law Universities (NLUs) and other affiliated institutions across India. The exam is conducted annually and serves as the primary gateway for law aspirants
Undergraduate (UG) Program:
1.Age Limit:
o There is no upper age limit for candidates.
o However, for candidates applying under the 5-year integrated LLB course, the age must be below 20 years at the time of admission (relaxed to 22 years for SC/ST candidates).
2. Educational Qualifications:
o Candidates must have passed the 10+2 examination or its equivalent from a recognized board with a minimum of 45% marks (for General/OBC/PWD candidates) or 40% marks (for SC/ST candidates).
o Candidates appearing in the 10+2 examination in the same year as CLAT can also apply.
Postgraduate (PG) Program:
1.Age Limit:
o There is no upper age limit for candidates.
2.Educational Qualifications:
o Candidates must have completed their LLB (3-year or 5-year integrated) degree from a recognized university with at least 55% marks (for General/OBC/PWD candidates) or 50% marks (for SC/ST candidates).
For Undergraduate (UG) Program:
1. Total Marks: 200 marks
2.Duration: 2 hours
3.Sections:
English Language: 28-32 questions
Current Affairs and General Knowledge: 35-39 questions
Legal Reasoning:35-39 questions
Logical Reasoning: 28-32 questions
Quantitative Techniques: 13-17 questions
4.Marking Scheme:
+1 mark for each correct answer
-0.25 marks for each incorrect answer (negative marking)
For Postgraduate (PG) Program:
1.Total Marks: 150 marks
2.Duration: 2 hours
3.Sections:
o Constitutional Law: 50 questions
o Jurisprudence: 50 questions
o Other Law Subjects (including Contracts, Torts, Criminal Law, International Law, etc.): 50 questions
4. Marking Scheme:
+1 mark for each correct answer
-0.25 marks for each incorrect answer (negative marking)
1. Written Exam: The CLAT exam consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Candidates must qualify the exam by securing the required cut-off score.
2. Counselling: Candidates who qualify the written exam will be called for a centralized counselling process, where seat allocation will be based on the candidate’s merit rank and preferences.
